Why Roy Beck is wrong, and dishonest
On the Internet, there is a movie clip going around that seems to be popular in ”immigration-critical” circles. The film features an American immigration opponent named Roy Beck, who with the help of gumballs tries to illustrate that there is nothing mass migration from poor to rich countries can do about global poverty. This is because the rich world consists of so few people, and the poor world of so many. Beck shows that there are three billion people living on less than two dollars a day and then compares this number with the one million people per year moving to the US from poor countries. It’s effective political communication. But it is not honest. For several reasons.
